Chief Greg Reeves, is a native of Lexington and long time resident of Georgetown, Kentucky. He was married in 1996 and in 2001 Chief Reeves and his wife Agness were blessed with twins. Chief Reeves and his family are members of the Broadway Christian Church in Lexington. Chief Reeves graduated from Bryan Station High School in 1979 and immediately went into the Army National Guard until 1987. His career in law enforcement extends over a 26 year period.
In September of 1984 Chief Reeves graduated from the Eastern Kentucky University Law Enforcement Academy and instituted his career with the Georgetown Police Department as a patrol officer. In 1988 Chief Reeves was appointed to the rank of Detective and worked Narcotics and General Investigations. From 1990 through 1995 Chief Reeves served as a member of the Bluegrass Area Drug Taskforce. Chief Reeves participated in over 400 hand-to-hand buys in Central Ky. This taskforce was extremely successful and had an approximate 94% conviction rate.
Chief Reeves was then promoted to Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Section where he served until September 1999 when he was named Assistant Chief by then Chief Bernard Palmer. While serving as Assistant Chief, Chief Reeves advanced his education, obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of Criminal Justice. In March 2004, Chief Reeves was appointed Chief of Police by Mayor Everett Varney. During his tenure as Chief he has implemented many new and valued programs, the Citizens Police Academy, Neighborhood Watch Programs, the McGruff House, and one of the most important, Kid Print. He has recently implement a Safe Driving Program for the employees of the City of Georgetown. He is currently in the process of implementing a Computer Forensic Investigation Section of the Police Department.
During his tenure at the GPD he has worked and is certified in multiple disciplines as it relates to law enforcement, to include but not limited to; K-9, Patrol, Narcotics, Community Relations, Special Response Team, General Investigations, Homicide Investigations and Administration. Some of his specialized law enforcement training includes; certification through the Secret Service Dignitary Protection Program in Washington, D.C., Certification by the D.E.A. on Narcotics Identification, IPTM (Institute of Police Technologey Management) graduate specializing in Undercover Field Operations and Special Response,
Chief Reeves is the current President for the Ky Association of Police Chiefs. He is an active volunteer on many different boards, some of which are; Co-Chair board member for KY-ASAP (Ky. Alcohol Substance Abuse Policy Board). He also holds a board member position on the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council, the Kentucky League of Cities, and the Governor's Highway Safety Executive Committee. Chief Reeves is a board member of the ITT Technical Institute, where he serves as a part-time Course Instructor on a volunteer basis. Chief Reeves also assists in instruction at the Department of Criminal Justice Training for orientation of new Police Chiefs for the state of Kentucky.
Chief Reeves is an active member of his community in youth sports, coaching football and baseball.
